The Sundale organization commissioned Dimond Architects to design their new Sunshine Coast based Aged Care facility on a ‘green field’ site in Coolum. The site layout and resultant medium density development appears spatially generous and feels open, complementing surrounding residential areas.
Building designs employ a coastal vernacular while being suited to the prevailing demographic of residents in both the Care facility and the independent units.
The first Stage of the development included a 50 bed Care Facility modulated into 5, 10 bed houses. Sundale specified a design that would engender flexibility thus extending building life. Sundale sought designs that would also be supportive of care delivered to residents with dementia.
Through the first stage and the subsequent 2 stages, the villages has grown to house around 90 residents in a range self care dwellings which are supported by a Community Centre , Library, Swimming Pool and other recreational facilities.
